MacRumors: Next Gen AppleTV Coming?

MacRumors is reporting that evidence of a next generation AppleTV has been found in the bowls of iOS 5.  This isn't surprising, products of the "future" have been found in Apple mobile operating system before; but the lead times can be incrediblly long (further evidence Apple plans well in advance). What could a new AppleTV have in store? 1080p is the most likely candidate. Since the iPhone 4S will produce 1080p video and the A5 can easily handle 1080p video - it seems a no brainer that Apple will eventually start streaming 1080p movies. Personally, the quality I get today with 720p is pretty darn good on my 55" 1080p LED TV. I think the AppleTV would have to do more than just 1080p to get me to replace the two we currently have in our home. I'm sure Apple has something else under their sleeve, but I will say that for a hobby the AppleTV is constantly being leveraged.

CNN Tribute to Steve Jobs

Today Steve Jobs was buried. While the light of his life has been extinguished, the light of his spirit will live on for decades to come. He will be spoken of in much the same way as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. He was one of the truly great innovators of not just our time, but all time. Not only that he was one of the great showman too. P.T. Barnum would be proud of how Steve Jobs could captivate an audience; spinning his "reality distortion field" as he showed off "one more thing." He has died, but he has not left us. The video below was put together by CNN. It's a wonderful walk down the public life of Steve Jobs. Many great moments that iPod, iPhone and iPad owners might just remember with great fondness.

The Apple Newton - The Original iPad

You know the iPad, how could you not. You know the iPhone, you see them everywhere. Over 200,000,000 iOS devices have been sold to date. Its hard not to see at least one of them daily. Most would say Apple's iOS devices are an unqualified success.

Many forget that the iPhone and iPad were not Apple's first foray into the world of personal digital assistants. In the 90's Apple had the "Newton." It was one of the very first PDA's, but it's success was far less certain. While some still exist today, the Newton was shelved by Steve Jobs in 1997 shortly after his return.

Amazingly the Newton did much of what the iPhone or iPad do today, but in ways that will seem ancient to anyone under 25. Check out the modem. The Newton could fax too, the iPhone can't fax.

This commercial will give you a very good idea of the Newton. I actually held one years ago. It was truly ahead of it's time. Just too big and too expensive for what it could do.
