Trip

The Bags Are Packed!

The bags are packed and we are ready to go. Both Tracy and I are very excited about this trip. Tracy is looking forward to her first major event as president of the Dallas ALA chapter and I'm looking forward to my first trip to Hawaii. It's going to be a lot of fun I'm sure.

I've already made reservations to see the Arizona memorial on Monday along with the Missouri and all the other exhibits in Pearl Harbor. I also plan to see the Dole plantation as well as all the gorgeous sites Honolulu has to offer. I even picked up some contacts so I can go snorkeling unencumbered by my bad eye site. Glasses and snorkeling don't mix too well.

Both Tracy and I have loaded our iPads with entertainment of all sorts. I'm also taking along an old iPod so Incan take all my music and save a little battery life on my iPhone and iPad. I have it, might as well use it! The flight is long, over 8 hours. Tomorrow will be a very long day. Even so, due to the time difference, we will arrive just 3 hours or so after we leave. So the long day, will be even longer. I love flying though, so I'm sure I will enjoy the adventure.

Tomorrow I'm sure a flood of photos will hit my site allowing friends and Family to virtually join us on the adventure. Wish my daughter could come with us, but school is still in session and there is nothing more important than my daughter's education. Never-the-less I will miss her dearly. Will she miss me??

Time to get ready for bed. Today was a long last day at work, and tomorrow is a long first day of vacation.

Hawaiian Trip Starts Soon

On Friday Tracy and I leave for Hawaii. Tracy has a conference she is attending and I will be, well ON VACATION. While Tracy has been to Hawaii several times, this will be my first trip to the island paradise. For seven days we will be staying at the Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. While Tracy attends conference sessions and hob knobs with others from her profession, I will be checking out sites like Pearl Harbor, the Dole Plantation and the Iolani Palace.

I also plan on getting plenty of beach and surf time as well as plenty of sight seeing walking all over Waikiki and Honolulu. During the trip I will post photos and videos of my travels, and maybe even some underwater video if my new iPhone case works as advertised.

The best part about going to Hawaii, is that I know so little about it every day will be an adventure. Every corner, every sight, every meal will be something new. To me there is nothing as exciting as venturing through a brand new city. When it's one as gorgeous as Honolulu, it's even better.

Herrera's Come to Town

On Thursday Carlos and the family surprised Tracy and me by coming home two days early. We were expecting them late Friday or Saturday and apparently they got home Wednesday night. Carlos is home on leave after having back surgery a few weeks ago. He’s doing well, for a man that just recently had back surgery. This was also the first time that I got to see and hold my newest grandson, Landen Herrera. What a beautiful boy. It was a special night indeed as my newest child and my newest grandson were together for the very first time. I didn’t take a lot of photos Thursday night, but they are here for three weeks and I will add photos to the album over that time.

Dick & Peggy Visit

Dick & Peggy Visit the Family

Tracy’s dad and his wife Peggy drove down to Dallas from Michigan last week to spend a long weekend with Tracy in celebration of her birthday. We all had a wonderful time, especially Tracy. She has been long separated from her dad only reconnecting a few years ago, shortly before our wedding. Dick and Peggy’s visit was extremely important to Tracy and a great opportunity for our daughters to get to know yet another set of grandparents. Below you will find a link to my gallery with photos from their visit. The next step is for us to make the long drive up to Michigan and spend some time with them in their hometown near Lake Erie.

Dick, I promised I would get the photos posted quickly this time. True to my word... Here’s the link!

Dad & Nancy Come to Town

Last weekend for the holiday Dad and Nancy drove down from Tulsa for a few days to visit. We hadn't seen them since our wedding last November. Tracy and I have been trying to get up to Tulsa, but obviously not trying hard enough since we haven't made it.

They came down on Friday and left on Sunday morning. Tracy and I both stayed home on Friday and did our best to keep the hounds of business from trampling down our door. Tracy succeeded far better than I, but eventually I was able to put all my troubles to bed until after the holiday. While I worked on closing out a few work issues, Tracy gave Dad and Nancy the 5 cent tour of our new house. Then once they were settled in, we all headed to Ballard Street Cafe for an eagerly awaited lunch.

Saturday morning Dad and I headed off to Dallas to find him his favorite Irish Whisky, Red Breast, that he discovered during our wedding at Trinity Hall in Dallas. We then headed back towards my neck of the woods, with a leisurely stop at a new cigar shop in Garland. There I treated Dad to a good cigar in the store's cigar lounge. Very enjoyable.

The rest of the weekend was really just spent relaxing, eating and chatting. It was a very enjoyable time, although too short.
