CNN Tribute to Steve Jobs
Today Steve Jobs was buried. While the light of his life has been extinguished, the light of his spirit will live on for decades to come. He will be spoken of in much the same way as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. He was one of the truly great innovators of not just our time, but all time. Not only that he was one of the great showman too. P.T. Barnum would be proud of how Steve Jobs could captivate an audience; spinning his “reality distortion field” as he showed off “one more thing.” He has died, but he has not left us.
The video below was put together by CNN. It’s a wonderful walk down the public life of Steve Jobs. Many great moments that iPod, iPhone and iPad owners might just remember with great fondness.
Little Known iOS 5 Features – MacWorld
This is a good article showing a few of the features of iOS 5 that haven’t gotten much press.

Facebook Statement On Mobile
Here’s an interesting article on Facebook and their stance on mobile. Oh and a comment from Facebook on the iPad.

The iPad Trance
I took this photo a few weeks ago and just love it. The photo effect gives it impact, but the subject is what gives it heart. In the photo are my daughter and her two nephews, my grandsons. They are just playing a game on the iPad, but it has their full attention. Look at those faces!
Getting the full attention of my daughter isn’t that hard, but getting the full attention of my grand kids for more than a few minutes is amazing. Every time they come over my oldest grandson asks me “grandpa, can I play birds?” He loves to play Angry Birds, but also just looks around to see what other games I have on my iPad and attempts to play them as well. Originally I just showed him how to hold it and gave him a quick demo of getting to an app, that’s it. He figured the rest out on his own. He was four years old the first time.
When the grandkids are playing with the iPad, it really does put them in a trance. Not in a bad way either, they concentrate. It’s not like watching TV, in my opinion, it’s far more interactive; especially for them. It’s not something I would give them to play with for long periods of time, eventually they do bore, but for a while I will hand over my precision iPad for the greater good; and a little quiet.
The Apple Newton – The Original iPad
You know the iPad, how could you not. You know the iPhone, you see them everywhere. Over 200,000,000 iOS devices have been sold to date. Its hard not to see at least one of them daily. Most would say Apple’s iOS devices are an unqualified success.
Many forget that the iPhone and iPad were not Apple’s first foray into the world of personal digital assistants. In the 90′s Apple had the “Newton.” It was one of the very first PDA’s, but it’s success was far less certain. While some still exist today, the Newton was shelved by Steve Jobs in 1997 shortly after his return.
Amazingly the Newton did much of what the iPhone or iPad do today, but in ways that will seem ancient to anyone under 25. Check out the modem. The Newton could fax too, the iPhone can’t fax.
This commercial will give you a very good idea of the Newton. I actually held one years ago. It was truly ahead of it’s time. Just too big and too expensive for what it could do.
New Apple iPad Ad – Now
Here’s the latest iPad ad, “Now.” Doesn’t matter if you like Apple products or not. Doesn’t matter if you have no plans to buy an iPad. You just have to admire the simplicity of Apple’s ads. The ads aren’t flashy. The ads don’t reference price or competition. The iPad ads just show what’s possible with an iPad, nothing more, nothing less.
