My Most Used iPhone Apps
0I love using my iPhone. When my wife got me the original for Christmas back in 2007, it literally changed how i used a mobile phone. I had used smartphones for years as well as PDAs, but while impressed with the technology their ease of use was always problematic.
Then Apple introduced apps and changed my life, especially my digital life. Apps opened a new world of mobile computing I had only dreamed of as a child and an adult.
Today I don’t leave the house for so much as a gallon of milk without my iPhone and often my iPad. The apps on them have become stitched into the fabric of my life more so than any computer I’ve ever used. That simple fact is due primarily to apps. (more…)
Coming Soon…
0A friend of mine has asked me to join him in a Mac round table discussion. The frequency of the show hasn’t yet been determined, nor my frequency on the podcast. The topics of each episode will always be Mac or iOS related.
I’ve done a few shows with him in the past and they have always been fun. Looking forward to doing more of them. If only because they are a change of pace from my day job, but mostly just because it’s fun! I am a geek after all.
Once we have a show in the can, that’s what those TV types call it right, I will post a link here and in my usual social feeds.
If you have an iPhone, time to do an update…
If you have an iPhone, time to do an update. Google+ just got a “little” better. It’s still not universal (read that “not iPad ready”), it doesn’t support landscape keyboard, and you still can’t start a hangout. That being said you can +1 a photo, updates to Messenger and of course “bug fixes.” I didn’t say it was a major update. You can get it here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google/id447119634?mt=8.

Zite Releases iPad Update – Codename “Sybil”
I love Zite. Let me say this again, I love Zite! I like many others was a little worried when CNN purchased Zite. It appears our fears were unwarranted. Recently a new version of Zite was released that brings a much needed feature to the iPad – user profiles. While these user profiles will only work in Zite, it still means that those families that share an iPad to read the news, no longer have to share the same feeds. They call this update “Sybil.”
Zite’s multiple personalities allows each user to have a different reading experience. If mom enjoys reading arts and entertainment, dad enjoys reading sports and little Johnny is really only interested in all things Apple; Sybil has your covered! Each person can create a user profile and then Zite will remember that individual’s preferences and reading choices.
Don’t know what Zite is? Have you been living under a rock? Zite is a personal news aggregator that learns what you like to read and show you more stories around those topics. Not only that, if you have a preference in what sources that news comes from you have control to see more or less from that content provider. With this release you can even completely nix a provider from your reading experience. (more…)
10 Year Old Girl’s Apple Dream Comes True
We all have dreams. As children they start small, typically only costing imagination. As we get older those dreams come with a higher price of sacrifice, compromise and often money. The rewards of seeing our dream, no matter how simple or silly, come true makes that which we give up seem less painful.
A 10-year-old girl in Utah taught a store full of Apple Store employees that lesson and in particular the store manager. So much so that the manager broke the rules just for her. In turn they both taught all of us a lesson or two.
According to the Girl’s dad, his story linked below, she had saved her nickles and dimes for nine months so that she could buy her very own iPod Touch. No small feat for a 10-year-old. (more…)
